Welding Procedure Qualifier Endorsement

Master the skills to qualify welding procedures, oversee testing, and finalize compliant WPS and PQR documentation.

Overview

This advanced endorsement prepares qualified welding professionals to plan, supervise and evaluate complete welding procedure qualifications in alignment with AWS B2.1/B2.1M and AWS D1.1/D1.1M. Participants learn to select process and material variables, oversee testing, interpret results and produce compliant WPS and PQR documentation from start to finish.

  • Class dates: TBD
  • Time: 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM
  • Location: 32081 Corydon St, Lake Elsinore, CA, or Online (hybrid option available)
  • Format: Two consecutive full days, in person or live online

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  • Implement the organization’s responsibilities.
  • Work from an engineering specification or drawing to determine an applicable base material and filler metal combination for procedure qualification testing.
  • Evaluate welding process requirements and determine essential variables that impact the qualification.
  • Decide whether a WPS requires qualification by testing, qualifies for prequalification, or if alternative WPS options can be used.
  • Determine equipment needed for preparing and taking measurements to record during welding of the test plates.
  • Provide oversight of the welding of the weld test.
  • Determine final NDE requirements of the weld test.
  • Determine destructive mechanical testing required by the governing standard or standards.
  • Correctly prepare test specimens from the test coupons.
  • Perform an evaluation of the test results.
  • Document actual welding variables and test results on a Procedure Qualification Record (PQR).
  • Assist with the determination of weld test failures.
  • Finalize the WPS.
  • Successful participants can earn the Welding Procedure Qualifier Endorsement from AWS by passing the required examination.
  • Training and exercises align with AWS B2.1/B2.1M:2021 and AWS D1.1/D1.1M:2020 usage within the course.
  • Tuition: $600

  • Required books: Sold separately (Study Material)

  • AWS B2.1/B2.1M:2021 Specification for Welding Procedure and Performance Qualification
  • AWS D1.1/D1.1M:2020 Structural Welding Code – Steel
