ICC & L.A. City Deputy Inspector Preparation — Blueprint Reading, Codes & Industry Certification
Overview
This training is designed for individuals pursuing careers as Special Inspectors or L.A. City Deputy Inspectors within the construction and welding industries. Students will develop the knowledge required to interpret structural plans, understand welding symbols, and apply relevant codes, including AWS D1.1, AISC specifications, and high-strength bolting requirements.
The program covers both Structural Steel and Bolting (S1) and Structural Welding (S2), with flexible scheduling options and no prerequisites required. These courses are ideal for those seeking inspection roles on construction projects that require strict adherence to building codes and industry standards. Required publications must be obtained separately, and students should plan for additional material costs.
PDH – L.A. City Deputy Inspector / ICC Special Inspector S1 – Structural Steel and Bolting
- Two-day course, 16 hours of instruction
- Pre-requisite: None
- Learn structural steel and high-strength bolting, blueprint reading, and structural plan interpretation
- Required Publications: AISC Steel Construction Manual (includes Specifications for Structural Joints Using High-Strength Bolts) and IBC
PDH – L.A. City Deputy Inspector / ICC Special Inspector S2 – Structural Welding
- Two-day course, up to 16 hours of instruction
- Pre-requisite: None
- Learn blueprint reading, welding symbols, the AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code – Steel, and plan interpretation
- Required Publications: AWS D1.1:2015, AWS A2.4, AWS D1.4, AWS D1.3
This training prepares students for careers as Special Inspectors or L.A. City Deputy Inspectors, equipping them with the skills to interpret structural plans, understand welding symbols, and apply relevant building codes and industry standards. These courses are ideal for those pursuing inspection roles in structural steel, bolting, and welding for construction projects.
These courses are intended to prepare students for the following certifications and qualifications:

- L.A. City Deputy Inspector
Certification is not awarded automatically upon course completion. Students must pursue testing and application processes with the relevant certifying authorities.
